Five directors for 'Parama Veera Chakra'

Five directors are set to act in director Dasari Narayana Rao’s grand movie, Parama Veera Chakra. Kodi Ramakrishna, Srinu Vytla, B.Gopal, Singeetam Srinivasa Rao and N Shankar are playing roles in his 150th movie that is under progress. There is reason for these directors acting in the movie, as the film requires some big known directors to do the roles of movie captains. As per the script, Balakrishna, who is playing dual role in it, works with these directors as he is playing a role of movie hero. While one character he does is that of an army major, the other one is movie hero. So all these directors are acting their respective real life characters.

The movie has completed 50 per cent of the shooting and currently it is being progressed at Manali. C Kalyan is producing it.

Rooney urged to learn from Sachin

The British media has lavished praise on iconic batsman Sachin Tendulkar and according to a column written by former England cricketer Ed Smith, Manchester United star Wayne Rooney should learn how to turn expectations into inspiration.

In an article headlined ‘Sanctuary of crease lets Tendulkar reveal genius,’ Smith had written, “Twice last week, sportsmen have proved me spectacularly wrong. First, Sachin Tendulkar reached 14,000 Test match runs. And that’s not the amazing part.

“It took him fewer innings to get from 13,000 to 14,000 than any other 1,000-run chunk of his career. A case could be made that he is at his best now, at 37,” the newspaper noted.

The article said Tendulkar and Rooney were destined for rare greatness, even from teenage. Tendulkar has gone on and done it.

A year ago, Rooney looked placed to do the same. But now, as never before, there are real doubts that he will become the player we once assumed he would be.

“Make no mistake, Tendulkar’s career has not been as serene as it might look, there have been arguments with coaches and match referees, an unsatisfactory spell as captain and long phases when the muse has deserted him.

“Tendulkar has had countless moments when frustration could have overwhelmed him. He has never blown his top, never lost his dignity. Instead, frustration has inspired him.”

“Above all, his career has been played out under the shadow of phenomenal expectation. Footballers in England have to deal with being heroes. In India it is even worse: they are meant to be Gods.”

“According to the report Tendulkar has come to the conclusion that there is one place where he is free from the hassles of fame. There is one realm where he cannot be pestered. It is called the crease.

“With the bat in his hands, Tendulkar is the conductor of his own life, not just a participant in a soap opera. There, out in the middle, no one can stop him being himself — not a restless media, not overly demanding fans or greedy agents.”

“It is the ultimate irony: the greatest actors are never freer than when they’re on the stage. That is the way for Rooney to find the way out of his present difficulties — he must have the bravery to express himself on the pitch, to make it his sanctuary.”

“If he allows himself to become embittered and resentful, he will not only become estranged from his fans, but also from his talent. No wonder the ball is bouncing off him at the moment; he probably would like to repel the whole game.

“Instead, he must learn to love it again. Shamed by alleged events off the pitch and embarrassed by events on it, Rooney could be forgiven for feeling sorry for himself,” the report said.

“It would be a normal thing to feel. But he doesn’t aspire to normality, but to greatness. And greatness, as Tendulkar has showed demands a superhuman degree of resilience and emotional dexterity. Rooney must locate his inner Tendulkar, a genius who got even with his critics by scoring hundreds.”

“For Rooney, in every sense, it’s time to turn the pressure into goals.”

School environment should be free from fear: PM

NEW DELHI: With some incidents of harsh punishments meted out to children apparently weighing heavy on his mind, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday said the school environment should be "free from fear, trauma and anxiety" to make the Right to Education (RTE) a grand national movement.

"The RTE Act bans corporal punishment and mental harassment. It also bans detention and expulsion. These provisions have led many teachers to question how discipline will be maintained in the classroom," he said.

Addressing the National Award winning teachers at his residence on the eve of Teacher's Day, Singh said that no child, irrespective of caste, gender or community should dread the thought of going to school.

Every year September 5, the birth anniversary of former President Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, is celebrated as Teacher's Day.

He said that the answer to the issue of maintaining discipline was given by philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti who said, "Discipline is an easy way to control a child, but it does not help him to understand the problems involved in living...If the teacher can give full attention to each child, observing and helping him, then compulsion or domination or discipline in any form may be unnecessary".

Noting that the government was committed to providing quality education to all, Singh said that time has come to ensure that every child in the country has the opportunity to exercise his or her right to an education of equitable quality and making the RTE a "grand national movement".

"The educational system in our country is at a very critical juncture," the Prime Minister said stressing the need to maintain the fine balance between tradition and continuity between tradition and modernity on the one hand, and innovation and change on the other.

Observing that teachers as front-line participants in educational reforms and nation's "most precious national resource", he said, "Sadly, teachers are often excluded from policy-making, governance and management of our educational system as also from day-to-day instructional strategies and decision making.

Kochi ODI called off due to heavy rains

Incessant rains for the last few days resulted in a wet outfield and fresh downpour in the morning, forced match referee Chris Broad to abandon the match. For a while, a 20-20 contest was also considered

The first one-dayer between India and Australia was today called off without a ball being bowled due to heavy rain here.

Incessant rains for the last few days resulted in a wet outfield and fresh downpour in the morning, forced match referee Chris Broad to abandon the match.

The umpires inspected the conditions at 9:00 am but found the areas near the bowlers run-up and a few parts near the boundary lines quite damp.

They were scheduled to carry out a second inspection at 11:00 am but after the fresh drizzle hitting the port city at around 10:20 am, Broad decided to abandon the opening encounter.

The officials were of the view that with all the water already on the field, it was impossible to play.

Though, it was not raining at the time of toss, but the wet outfield caused due to persistent rain in the last few days, delayed the start of play at Jawahar Lal Nehru stadium.

Groundsmen were making efforts to make the field dry for play but the heavy downpour again meant covers were brought back on the ground.

Both India and Australia players were indoors at the hotel and it was decided that after second inspection of the pitch and outfield by match referee Broad, they would be asked to leave the hotel for the ground.

The teams now travel to Visakhapatnam for the second one-dayer on October 20.

The organisers have decided to refund the cost of tickets bought by the 30,000-odd spectators.

Kochi has been witnessing heavy downpour since last Thursday which washed out the practice sessions of both the teams.

The Indian and Australian team members had reached here on Thursday after the second Test in Bangalore, which the host won. India had also won the first Test at Mohali.
